Pacific Life Foundation Presents Ocean Alliance with Walter B. Gerken Community Service Award

Lincoln, MA (January 25, 2005) - Ocean Alliance President Dr. Roger Payne, CEO Iain Kerr, and Board Co-Chairman Jeff Kunz were presented the 11th Annual Walter B. Gerken Community Service Award by the Pacific Life Foundation this afternoon at a reception held at Pacific Life's headquarters in Newport Beach, CA.

Robert Haskell, President of the Pacific Life Foundation, said, "This award stands as a commendation to retired Pacific Life Chairman and CEO Walter B. Gerken and to the spirit of community involvement established by his predecessors and perpetuated by his successors. Mr. Gerken is a man intensely devoted to the betterment of society and a big supporter of those who share that devotion. We are proud to acknowledge Ocean Alliance as an organization that shares his heartfelt commitment."

Ocean Alliance first received funding through the Pacific Life Foundation in 1999, when the Foundation became a primary supporter of the WHALE Education Program. The WHALE Education program, a museum and aquarium based interactive media program for students, was subsequently presented with the 1999 and 2002 award for outstanding achievement in multimedia programs from the Parent's Guide to Children's Media, Inc.

The Pacific Life Foundation has been a major supporter of Ocean Alliance's global Voyage of the Odyssey since its launch in 2000. Pacific Life also hosts an annual exhibit by Ocean Alliance at the annual Pacific Life Open tennis tournament in Indian Wells. CA. At this two-week tournament, Ocean Alliance representatives provide educational materials, presentations, and participatory activities for children and adults relating to whales and their ocean environment.
