Ilana Schoenfeld - Director of Education

 

Ilana joined the Ocean Alliance team in June 2010.Over the course of her career, she hasilana-photo worked as a senior science editor, communications officer, fundraiser, program evaluator, museum exhibit developer, and content specialist focusing on the development of formal and informal earth and life science-based educational media for K-12 audiences and the general public.

Ilana has worked for various organizations including: the Lemelson-MIT Program, Brown Publishing Network, the JASON Foundation for Education, Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration, the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies, Main Street Design and the Ecological Society of America.

 

Having grown up on the Rhode Island coastline, Ilana has a strong connection to the ocean environment and has always had a passion for issues related to the conservation of marine ecosystems and species—especially whales.


She has a Master’s in Environmental Science/Social Ecology from the Yale School of Forestry and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American History from Brandeis University; she is fluent in Spanish and French.
